Heads Up!
The Writer’s Astrological Almanac

June 2018
all times are PDT.
Welcome to Retrograde City. Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto are retrograde throughout June and by the end of the month, Mars and Neptune will be retrograde, too. And Jupiter will be direct by then, for better or worse. At least we don’t have to concern ourselves with Mercury until near the end of July. Take all this as celestial permission to be in less of a rush, and in less of a hurry to make decisions that do not need to be rushed. Heck, refuse to be rushed, period. Do what you do, take the time you need, and see if you can get it right the first time. (Editing follows different rules, of course.)
Fri Jun 01 the Moon is in Capricorn all day. It’s Venus’s day of the week, and we have a Venus-Jupiter trine in the morning. Express those affections, work on what you love, and try not to get too ramped up over it. It’s a danger, because in the evening the Moon conjoins Pluto.
Sat Jun 02 the Moon is still in Capricorn when Venus trines Neptune. Love your dreams enough to let them influence your work. The Moon enters Aquarius during the afternoon and cold logic will try to minimize dreams.
Sun Jun 03 the Moon conjoins Mars in Aquarius. Feel strongly about what you do. Remember that your audience is probably bigger than you realize.
Tue Jun 05 the Moon is in Pisces when the Sun conjoins Mercury at 7:02 pm. Heads Up. The day may not go smoothly, but you can still be satisfied with it. Then, at 7:25 pm Venus opposes Pluto. Heads Up. Love always has a shocker or surprise under wraps. Romance writers, take note.
Wed Jun 06 the Moon is in Pisces all day. At 7:07 am Mercury squares Neptune. At 12:25 pm the Moon conjoins Neptune. At 10:58 pm the Sun squares Neptune. Heads Up. If it’s been hard to stay grounded and focused, you are not alone.
Sat Jun 09 the Moon conjoins Uranus in Taurus. Heads Up. Expect reversals of opinion or views. You may radically change your mind, yourself.
Mon Jun 11 the Moon enters Gemini at 11:53 pm. It may have been a day of Taurus, but you can go to sleep full of mercurial plans and intentions, or pure curiosities about how much you can get done between now and the end of Wednesday.
Tue Jun 12 the Moon is in Gemini when Mercury changes signs, leaves its home Gemini and enters Cancer at 1:00 pm. The Moon trines Mars at exactly the same time. Stay home, or keep a domestic frame of mind, and do good things. This is Mars’s day of the week, too. Get a lot done. Heads Up. It’s also the day before the New Moon. Whatever you do, do it with care. Make that a double Heads Up.
Wed Jun 13 at 12:43 pm we have the New Moon at 22 Gem. Heads Up for a lunar month of new and invigorating pursuits. If it turns out to be mostly social, so be it, but at least take notes. At 2:54 pm Venus changes signs, leaves Cancer and enters Leo. Aesthetics and social interactions get more playful and glamorous.
Thu Jun 14 the Moon leaves Gemini and enters Cancer at 12:20 am. Heads Up for sweet dreams, and perhaps a midnight snack. At 6:02 am the Moon conjoins Mercury in Cancer. Heads Up. Wake up with more ideas than you can perhaps remember.
Fri Jun 15 the Moon is in Cancer when Mercury opposes Saturn. Heads Up. If patience is a problem, take a walk and remove yourself from the danger of more bags of cookies.
Sat Jun 16 the Moon conjoins Venus in Leo. It could very well be a weekend of parties. It’s all research, right?
Mon Jun 18 the Moon is in Virgo when Neptune goes stationary retrograde. Heads Up. It will be retrograde until November 24, so you know. Anything that dissipates the mental fog is a good thing.
Tue Jun 19 the Moon is still in Virgo when Mercury trines Jupiter. Write fast, write true, and write a lot. Show it to no one until you’ve cleaned it up.
Wed Jun 20 the Moon is in Libra when Mercury trines Neptune. Curiosity sympathizes with idealism today. It’s also the last day of the year that the Sun spends in Gemini. Make it count. Tomorrow the world may seem slower, less adventurous, and more full of snack foods. Heads Up.
Thu Jun 21 the Moon is in Libra when the Sun leaves Gemini and enters Cancer at 3:07 am. Wake up to a world and a work ethic with a stronger sense of devotion. It’s also the summer solstice, the first day of summer in the northern hemisphere. It’s the longest day of the year, and the shortest night (not great for stargazers but probably good for gardeners). For a peek at the prevailing mood in the next three months, cast an ingress chart.
Sat Jun 23 the Moon is in Scorpio when Mercury opposes Pluto at 2:26 am. Heads Up. Personally, I plan to sleep through this, although a disturbed dream is possible. Almost twelve hours later, at 2:11 pm, the Moon conjoins Jupiter in Scorpio. Heads Up. Get lucky about something fundamental. It might be a good day to meet with your agent or your critique group.
Tue Jun 26 the Moon is in Sagittarius when Mars goes stationary retrograde. Heads Up from now until August 27. You can still make a lot of progress, but it may take more effort. Don’t let your motivation sag.
Wed Jun 27 the Moon is in Sagittarius when the Sun opposes Saturn at 6:28 am. Heads Up. It’s a great day to write the blow-up argument scene. At 8:52 am the Moon leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn. It could be a workaholic kind of day. At 8:34 pm the Moon conjoins Saturn. No amount of frustration will discourage you. At 9:53 pm we have the Full Moon at 06 Cap. Heads Up. Ask for energy and progress, and get a lot done in the next four weeks.
Thu Jun 28 the Moon is still in Capricorn when Mercury changes signs, leaves Cancer and enters more overtly ambitious Leo. Heads Up. You may find yourself speaking and writing with a louder voice.
Fri Jun 29 the Moon conjoins Pluto in Capricorn. It’s okay to get intense. Pour it into your work.
Sat Jun 30 the Moon conjoins Mars in Aquarius. This is the second Moon-Mars conjunction this month. Get more ambitious and perhaps expand a current project that would benefit from a bigger scale.
Summer doesn’t sneak up on us. It tempts and teases, and then pounces on our heads. We can take it all in the spirit of fun and playfulness, or we can hide in the shadows with a cold cup of coffee. Regardless, summer gets to us.
Mars will be retrograde when that happens, and that might make it a bit less manic, but it’s the nature of summer to be emotional and manic. The Sun takes refuge in Cancer and is the guest of the Moon until late July. We can live with that.
Stay organized, on track, on schedule, or just do the best you can with what you’ve got, day by day. That’s my plan, to the extent that I have one.
Heads Up!
