November 2018
Times are PDT until 2:00 am on November 4. Afterwards, all times are PST.
How’s your Venus retrograde going? Maybe just as important, it’s happening in the Via Combusta, the part of the sky with the least slack and forgiveness. We can handle it, though. We can work through it and come out the other side more productive and lively than ever. (continue reading…)

October 2018
all times are PDT.
These are tense times and it doesn’t help that Venus will be retrograde for most of the month. It may take extra effort to get along with others, to deal with our own failings, and to be compassionate in general. But it’s also a time of great emotional energy, a lot of it good. No matter what the aspect or planetary position, it’s all double-edged. We can do good with whatever we’re handed. Let’s be productive, and do it.
Mon Oct 01 the Moon is in Gemini until 11:00 am when it finally moves into Cancer. Be mercurial all morning, then have a well-earned lunch. Even if you sleep in, you can do great things later in the day and the evening. Remember what you love about your own work. Now do it. (continue reading…)

September 2018
all times are PDT.
Retrogrades are still on the menu this month, but more like appetizers. Four planets are retrograde when the month starts, with Saturn going direct after the first week. After that we are down to three, but they are all in Earth signs, two in Capricorn and one in Taurus. By the end of the month, we are down to only two planets retrograde. So, it may still like we’re slogging through the days but we can make some real progress, however slowly. Hang in there. (continue reading…)

August 2018
all times are PDT.
Retrogrades are still on the menu this month. Five planets. From August 7 until 18 there will be six. We can still move ahead with our lives. Even with a solar eclipse tossed in, we’re not going to be slowed down. The Sun is in Leo, then Virgo. That’s about as passionate and practical as it gets. (continue reading…)

July 2018
all times are PDT.
No guarantees but July might start less tensely than June ended. The last two days of June, the Moon was besieged, sandwiched in between Saturn and Mars. That’s over for the moment. (continue reading…)

June 2018
all times are PDT.
Welcome to Retrograde City. Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto are retrograde throughout June and by the end of the month, Mars and Neptune will be retrograde, too. And Jupiter will be direct by then, for better or worse. At least we don’t have to concern ourselves with Mercury until near the end of July. Take all this as celestial permission to be in less of a rush, and in less of a hurry to make decisions that do not need to be rushed. Heck, refuse to be rushed, period. Do what you do, take the time you need, and see if you can get it right the first time. (Editing follows different rules, of course.) (continue reading…)

May 2018
all times are PDT.
Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto are retrograde throughout May but all the other planets are direct. The world may be in low gear, but not us. With the Sun approaching the sign of Gemini, we’re straining on the leash to do more, faster, to spend more time with more people, and to get more work out into the world. (continue reading…)

April 2018
all times are PDT.
This is not the time to be afraid of retrogrades. Mercury and Jupiter are both retrograde for the first half of the month. For the second half of the month, Jupiter and Saturn are retrograde. Slow down and get more serious about simply doing things right. They don’t have to be right the first time. Stick with it. You’ve got this month. April starts on Sunday, the Sun’s day of the week. Shine your brightest. (continue reading…)

March 2018
all times before 2 AM March 11 are PST. After that, it’s PDT.
However this March is coming in, it’s going out like a lion. Keep your head down, keep working, and don’t let the world punch your buttons, especially in the first week. Then you’ll go out like a lion, too. That’s my plan.
Thu Mar 01 the Moon is in Virgo when Venus trines Jupiter. That’s a happiness-is aspect, so wake up in a good mood and do good work. Plus, Thursday is Jupiter’s day of the week. Think and act big. At 4:51 pm we have the Full Moon at 11 Vir. Heads Up. How practical can you be? Now do it big.

The Writer’s Astrological Almanac
December 2017
All times are PST.
December, the tenth month since spring, and for most of us the end of the year. Think, and act, like a boxer, and finish strong. The month is packed with Saturn and Capricorn, but there are plenty of other influences. The last Mercury retrograde of the year is in Sagittarius. The Full Moon in Gemini is a supermoon, bright and high in the sky. Buckle up for a month of wild swings high and low. Be happy that we start on a Friday, the day of the week ruled by Venus. (continue reading…)
