Heads Up!
The Writer’s Astrological Almanac
by Kathy Watts
April 2011
Happy Spring! Congratulations on weathering the storms of March. May there be more sun, warmth, and green growing things in our immediate future! Mercury may be retrograde, but that can be a good thing (yes, you heard me right). Think clearly, carefully, perhaps a bit more slowly (although with Mercury in Aries, how slow can it be?), and deeply. Be grateful for a bit of restraint and a slight curb on what otherwise might be shameless mental mania.
April starts off on a Friday, the day of the week special to Venus and all things charming and lovely. The Moon is void of course in Pisces (and not yet in Aries, for better or worse) when Mars changes signs and enters his home sign of Aries. In a month like this, we could set the world on fire, so be careful and make good choices all month long!
Sat Apr 02 the Moon conjuncts Mars in Aries. Be primed for a high-energy weekend, and remember to take notes, as there may be little time to compose it all properly. Not quite a couple of hours later, the Moon conjuncts Uranus in Aries. This can be more high-energy surprises, some of which best belong in fiction. Don’t let the stunning stuff pass by unnoticed. Writers are notorious for being observant, after all. It’s also the day before the New Moon (yes, in combustible Aries). Drive safely, especially if you’re in a little red car. Be cautious but not paranoid. Heads Up.
Sun Apr 03 is the New Moon at 13Ari. Inspiration is a form of high energy. If you’re not already fired up about your work, perhaps now’s the time to ask for that. Midday, the Moon conjuncts Jupiter, in Aries. This conjunction so close to a new moon makes it even more powerful. Be wide open to massive good luck, and don’t narrowly dictate what form it takes. Two hours later Mars conjuncts Uranus, in Aries. Mars on his alone is combustible. With Uranus, things can be explosive. In Aries (ruled by Mars, don’t forget) it can be more high-yield than “usual” (not that anything about Uranus is usual). I may stay in today and work on my disaster novel.
Mon Apr 04 the Moon conjuncts Mercury retrograde, in Aries, then goes void of course. Today your critical thinking can be at its best. Neptune chooses now to move out of Aquarius and enter Pisces, where it is the modern ruler. Celebrate with some luscious music, or perhaps a great movie.
Wed Apr 06 the Moon is void of course in Taurus all day. Work undisturbed in deep creative comfort. Well, maybe take care with those deskside snacks. We are getting a month of Wednesdays with the Moon in mutable signs (although next Wed, Apr 13, the Moon will be void of course in Leo almost all day). These can be productive times for the malleable mind of the writer and artist. Today the Sun conjuncts Jupiter in Aries. Let your character and your work ethic become your good luck. Write with your heart, and hold your head up high. Know that your words will touch the hearts of others.
Thu Apr 07 the Moon enters the sign of Gemini. We have from now till Saturday afternoon to focus on words and all things that spur good communication. Mercury retrograde should help keep our words careful and honest.
Sat Apr 09 the Sun conjuncts Mercury retrograde in Aries. This can be excellent personal brainstorming time. Take notes about what you want to do and what you think about it all, and share those notes with no one.
Mon Apr 11 the Moon is void of course in Cancer when Mars squares Pluto. It may be a good day to write those scenes of massive domestic argument. Evening, the Moon has entered dramatic Leo when Mercury retrograde conjuncts Jupiter. Take the time you need to fully express yourself, and give your ideas and luck their best chance.
Wed Apr 13 the Moon is void of course almost all day in Leo, slipping into Virgo shortly before midnight. Write with passionate abandon, knowing that it is all going to be edited and made to shine.
Sat Apr 16 the Moon conjuncts Saturn in Libra. It’s a good day for a little respectful silence, or at least diplomatic discussions. In a wild, even hyper month, a weekend day with a little peace and quiet can be very healing.
Sun Apr 17 is the Full Moon at 27Lib. Think Peace! It’s also Palm Sunday. Think more peace!
Mon Apr 18 the Moon is in Scorpio when Mars exactly opposes Saturn. This configuration has all the marks of a serious argument with yourself. Do your arguing on paper (or screen) and avoid coming to any resolution that can come back and bite you.
Tue Apr 19 the Moon is in Scorpio when Mercury retrograde conjuncts Mars in Aries. It’s yet another day to try and stay out of arguments. It might be a great day to write a scene with one, though. This is the last day of the month for the Sun to be in Aries. Tomorrow the Sun will no longer be listening intently to Mars but will become a guest in the house of Venus. Heads Up. It’s also Passover. On many levels, on this day of the last day of Aries the Ram, it’s a rough day to be a lamb.
Wed Apr 20 the Moon is in Sagittarius when the Sun changes signs and enters Taurus. Envision something big and beautiful. We have all month to manifest at least part of it. Later that night, Venus herself changes signs and moves out of Pisces and into Aries. The exaggerated touchy-feeling connections weaken and are replaced with a more fiery dynamic bond with those things you love.
Fri Apr 22 the Moon conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. Today everyone feels like they’re not working hard enough, so relax because it’s not just you. Two and a half hours later Venus conjuncts Uranus. The unusual looks better and better. Heads Up all day.
Sat Apr 23 the Moon is in Capricorn when Mercury at last goes stationary direct. Congratulations. We have weathered yet another Mercury retrograde period. With the Moon in Capricorn, though, don’t expect much of a relief. Be good to yourself today and be happy that a writer’s work is never done.
Tue Apr 26 the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Pisces. What problems you don’t solve in the daytime, perhaps you can approach in dreams.
Wed Apr 27 the Moon is in Pisces all day. Play your favorite background music and write of your most secret concerns. Be emotional with your words. Feel free to fictionalize, of course.
Fri Apr 29 the Moon conjuncts Uranus in Aries. Declare some small portion of independence and make it a part of your life and your work.
Sat Apr 30 the Moon conjuncts Venus in Aries. You just might be able to charm a bird or two out of the trees today. In the afternoon, the Moon conjuncts Mercury in Aries. Birds that don’t respond to sweetness might listen to your convincing arguments. At night, Mars exactly conjuncts Jupiter in Aries. Heads Up. Let others hammer away on their agendas. If you can show a little restraint, the right people may notice and prefer being with you. That’s good luck, too.
This is one month filled to the brim with Mars and Aries. All this energy is at your fingertips, so wear asbestos gloves if you have to, but flame on, and don’t burn out. You can make great progress this month. What the world does not readily accept will still be accomplished and available in some future month. Stay energized and adamant. No one can do what you do, say what you say, write what you write. Only you! Heads Up!
