Heads Up!
The Writer’s Astrological Almanac

September 2017
All times are PDT.
September! The Sun is in less hysterical Virgo, Mercury is still retrograde, and the solar eclipse is behind us, mostly. The month starts on a Friday, the day of the week for Venus. Stay cheerful, keep working, and it will be autumn and Libra season before we know it. This is no time to slack.
Fri Sept 01 the Moon conjoins Pluto in Capricorn. End the week serious about a project you love. Happiness is visible progress, however little or much.
Sun Sept 03 the Moon is in Aquarius when Mercury retrograde conjoins Mars in Leo. This happens at 28 Leo, the same degree as last month’s solar eclipse. Heads Up. The end of Leo is powerful, even without the lingering effects of a solar eclipse. Take your work in hand and be a king or queen for the day.
Mon Sept 04 the Moon in Aquarius opposes Mercury retrograde at 7:33 pm. You can fix something minor that makes a major improvement. At 10:18 pm the Moon opposes Mars and goes void of course. It’s fine to put down the pen or turn off the computer and pause. When not writing, reading is always good. The Moon is still void of course when the Sun opposes Neptune at 10:28 pm. (My computer’s ephemeris thinks that the Moon enters Pisces at 10:28 pm and the Sun-Neptune opposition is at 10:36 pm with the Moon already at 00 Pis 04. Go figure.) Regardless, in the US, it’s Labor Day and the unofficial end of summer. Share a hot dog or hamburger with a friend, or a fan.
Tue Sept 05 the Moon is in Pisces when Mars changes signs, leaving Leo at last and enters Virgo. Motivation returns to getting the daily work done, or caught up. At 4:29 am Mercury goes stationary direct at 28 Leo, the degree of the solar eclipse. Heads Up. If you’ve felt that there has been something important that has escaped you, you have a good chance of seeing and understanding it now. At 10:07 pm the Moon conjoins Neptune in Pisces. Dreams may help solve a plot tangle or a character complication.
Wed Sept 06 we have the Full Moon at 12:03 am at 13 Pis. Heads Up. This is virtually on top of Neptune. Dreams don’t get much more powerful or evocative than this. If you want to meditate or sit quietly for part of today and see what comes to you, that could be good.
Sat Sept 09 the Moon conjoins Uranus in Aries. This is always good for getting out and contacting new people or having them contact you. The Moon is in Taurus when Mercury changes signs, exits Leo and enters its nocturnal home Virgo. Heads Up for all good editorial things. Mercury is direct now. Write fresh material perhaps about a new topic. Keep it to a manageable size, for the time being.
Mon Sept 11 the Moon enters Gemini at 12:29 pm. Heads Up for all your favorite mercurial activities that further your writing work. Write, read, converse, chat, email, text away. You get the idea. You know that this window of opportunity isn’t open for long.
Wed Sept 13 the Moon in Gemini sextiles Uranus at 11:35 am and goes void of course. Is there an off the wall idea that you haven’t yet pursued? Time is short. At 3:12 pm the Moon leaves Gemini and enters Cancer. It is so tea time!
Sat Sept 16 the Moon is in Leo when Mercury conjoins Mars in Virgo. This conjunction should be way different from the one on Sept. 03. Heads Up for all good things. With the Moon in Leo, there could still be some eclipse repercussions but work life and social life are approaching normal, sort of. This Mercury-Mars conjunction should have less second-guessing or self-criticisms. Grab an idea, and go for it.
Sun Sept 17 the Moon conjoins Venus in Leo. This is a formula for fun. You deserve it.
Mon Sept 18 the Moon conjoins Mars in Virgo at 12:48 pm. If you didn’t get much done over the weekend, you can play catch-up now. Then, the Moon conjoins Mercury at 4:20 pm. Take notes, if nothing else. It’s also the day before the New Moon. Automatic Heads Up. Be practical, cautious, and safe.
Tue Sept 19 the very dark Moon is in Virgo when Venus changes signs at 6:15 pm and enters Virgo. Heads Up. Work gets less flashy but more substantial. Modest can be powerful and good. At 8:50 pm Mercury makes an exact opposition to Neptune. Inspiration is strong, and so is clearer vision about what is possible or impossible. We have the New Moon at 10:30 pm at 27 Vir, and the Moon promptly goes void of course. Heads Up. Look forward to a lunar month of solid progress, with few loose ends at the end to slow you down later. Feel good about it all.
Wed Sept 20 the Moon enters Libra at 3:06 am. it could be a good day for your writing critique group to meet. Chat with your co-author, or agent, or prospective publisher. Or, make a fresh pot of tea and write that polite political commentary piece.
Thu Sept 21 the Moon is in Libra all day. More interesting is that today is the last day that the Sun spends in meticulous Virgo. Tomorrow the world may seem a bit more loose, casual, and agreeable. Heads Up.
Fri Sept 22 the Moon conjoins Jupiter in Libra at 3:27 am. Wake up feeling lucky and grateful for past generosities. The Moon has moved into Scorpio when Mercury makes a trine with Pluto at 11:01 am. You can pull off that outrageous plot twist and make it look like destiny. At 1:02 pm the Sun leaves Virgo and enters the more sociable and diplomatic sign of Libra. Heads Up. For a peek at the next three months, you could cast an ingress chart. (I’m normally too lazy and prefer being surprised, but’s natal Mars in Libra for you.)
Sun Sept 24 the Moon is still in Scorpio when Mars makes a magical if problematic opposition to Neptune. Heads Up. This is celestial mischief like little else. A brilliant, daring idea may backfire, so act accordingly. This has plot possibilities, does it not?
Tue Sept 26 the Moon conjoins Saturn in Sagittarius. You can be the voice of reason in the loudest gathering. Reflect on this for possible use in a scene or for character development.
Wed Sept 27 the Moon in Sagittarius trines Uranus in Aries and then goes void of course at 4:08 am. A trine in Fire is usually good for a kick-start if motivation has been sagging. The Moon enters Capricorn at 9:24 am. At 9:23 pm Jupiter in Libra makes an opposition with Uranus in Aries. If this is a Heads Up, it has been and will be a heads up for a long time. If something big has been started, it can gain momentum now. If there is only the seed of an idea for something big, there is plenty of time to plant it and get it growing. You don’t have to write the next War and Peace, but you get the idea.
Thu Sept 28 the Moon conjoins Pluto in Capricorn at 7:27 pm. If you would rather write than socialize, it’s understandable. Earlier, at 12:36 pm Pluto goes stationary direct. Pluto has been retrograde since April 20. This is the classic outer planet case of “did you miss me?”
Fri Sept 29 the Moon is in Capricorn when Mercury changes signs, leaves Virgo and enters Libra. The month ends on a cheerful and optimistic note. You could also fall in love with your characters all over again.
September is about much more than just rebound and recovery from August and the eclipse. We are slowly leaving behind the late Leo incendiary conditions. The royal star Regulus has been strafed by a solar eclipse and global political conditions may reflect this for some time to come.
Let’s also remember that Regulus has precessed out of Leo and into the beginning of Virgo. Perhaps the clearest indication of this to me, speaking of the spiritual community, is that Louise Hay, the great queen of affirmations, has died and is now on the other side of the veil. It’s often hard to know what is a good thing or a bad thing. Being positive and objective strikes me as a better approach than being pessimistic, however realistic.
I write astrology in the spirit of affirmations, which is different from vacuous optimism and positive adages. Every day is a good day for something, ah, but for what? Sometimes it’s a good day for staying in bed, right?
Blast on through all obstacles, or pause and figure out a smarter way to proceed. With the Sun in Libra, we can commiserate, learn from one another, and take pleasure in the journey.
Heads Up!
