The Writer’s Astrological Almanac

November 2018
Times are PDT until 2:00 am on November 4. Afterwards, all times are PST.
How’s your Venus retrograde going? Maybe just as important, it’s happening in the Via Combusta, the part of the sky with the least slack and forgiveness. We can handle it, though. We can work through it and come out the other side more productive and lively than ever.
Thu Nov 01 the Moon is in Leo almost all day. It’s Jupiter’s day of the week, a nice way to start the month. Be upbeat and let your work be more fun.
Mon Nov 05 the Moon is in Libra all day. The Sun trines Neptune at 10:40 pm. Be prepared for a day laden with emotions, dreams, and aspirations. Write what touches your heart the most. You’ll find the most lovely way to express it, too.
Tue Nov 06 the Moon conjoins Venus retrograde in Libra at 12:19 am and then goes void of course until 5:02 am when the Moon enters Scorpio. This could make for some serious and maybe sensuous dreams. At 11:00 am Uranus retrogrades back into Aries. This could be the two steps back for the previous one step forward. You can make it work for you, though. It’s Election Day in the US. Heads Up for the reasons of your choice. It’s also the day before the New Moon. Heads Up in all ways that you need to be safe, sound, and happy.
Wed Nov 07 the Moon is in Scorpio all day. At 8:02 am we have the New Moon at 15 Sco. Heads Up. Today is the Kali Puja. You might just be inspired to work through the night. This is also the last day that Jupiter spends in Scorpio. Heads Up. How much more Scorpionic energy do you want? This is about as serious as it gets. Use it to good effect.
Thu Nov 08 the Moon is in Scorpio when Jupiter changes signs, leaving Scorpio and entering its home sign Sagittarius at 4:38 am. Heads UP. Moods and motivations should lift. At 10:59 am the Moon enters Sagittarius. At 11:06 am the Moon conjoins Jupiter in Sagittarius. We’ve traded Scorpio for Sagittarius, Mars and Pluto for Jupiter. Be good to yourself, work hard, and feel virtuous.
Fri Nov 09 the Moon conjoins Mercury in Sagittarius at 5:37 am. Be extra sharp-witted and mentally active all day. It’s also the first day with the Sun having moved out of the Via Combusta. Take a deep breath and relax a little. You’re doing good.
Sun Nov 11 the Moon conjoins Saturn in Capricorn. You can be responsible without being anti-social. It’s Armistice Day. This year it’s the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One. Wear your poppy.
Mon Nov 12 the Moon conjoins Pluto in Capricorn. Don’t get paranoid about deadlines. Respect them, that’s all.
Wed Nov 14 the Moon is in Aquarius all day. It’s good to take a step back and be more objective about something that has been perhaps driving you a bit too hard.
Thu Nov 15 the Moon is in Aquarius when Mars changes signs, leaving Aquarius and moving into Pisces. Heads Up. Mars won’t be thrilled to be in Pisces but that discomfort can make you more sensitive to what you’ve been hammering on with little progress. At 8:41 pm the Moon enters Pisces. This could be a super-sensitive night. Believe your feelings but don’t get swept away. The Moon conjoins Mars at 9:02 pm. It may be hard to resist saying something that is better left unsaid. Let one of your characters do this for you. This is also the last day that Venus is retrograde. Heads Up. You don’t have to be cold-hearted but you may want to preserve a little distance for your heart. It’s also the day before Mercury goes stationary retrograde. Heads Up. Do you know where your phone and keys are? Do you know all of your passwords?
Fri Nov 16 the Moon is in Pisces all day. At 2:51 am Venus goes stationary direct in Libra. Heads Up. Look for a bit more friendliness but don’t expect instant coziness. It could be a good day to keep conversations short and sweet. You have writing to do, after all. At 5:33 pm Mercury goes stationary retrograde. Heads Up. Maybe you’d rather do editing.
Sat Nov 17 the Moon is still in Pisces all day. The Moon conjoins Neptune at 12:07 am. Indulge in some dreamy work, dreamy music, and maybe some dreamy company.
Mon Nov 19 the Moon is in Aries all day. Mars squares Jupiter at 5:30 pm. You may not get through even half of your to-do list, but don’t feel bad about it. Some days it’s easy to get over-ambitious.
Tue Nov 20 the Moon conjoins Uranus retrograde in Aries. You may not set the world on fire but you could still kick up a few sparks. Feel good about your work.
Wed Nov 21 the Moon is in Taurus all day long. You may not work fast but you can certainly work slow and steady. It’s also the last day that the Sun spends in Scorpio. Tomorrow the world may seem lighter, brighter, and maybe even bigger.
Thu Nov 22 the Moon is in Taurus when the Sun changes signs, leaves Scorpio and enters Sagittarius at 1:01 am. Heads Up. It’s the party time of the year. At 8:10 pm the Moon leaves Taurus and enters Gemini. We have from now until Saturday night to be as mercurial, playful, curious, and communicative as we care to be. Write, write, write. Heads Up. At 9:39 pm we have the Full Moon at 00 Gem. Heads Up. Start something new. Make a new writing friend.
Sat Nov 24 the Moon is still in Gemini when Neptune goes stationary direct. Neptune has been retrograde since June 18. I’m not saying that the world will get less fuzzy and delusional, but maybe the music will improve. At 10:38 pm the Moon moves out of Gemini and enters Cancer. This might call for an early midnight snack. Did you get much done?
Sun Nov 25 the Moon is in Cancer when the Sun conjoins Jupiter in Sagittarius. Heads Up for extra good luck. Or, perhaps a burst of over-enthusiasm. Write what you can.
Tue Nov 27 the Moon is in Leo when the Sun conjoins Mercury retrograde at 1:15 am. Heads Up. Put extreme logic on the shelf and go with your gut feelings. At 2:27 pm Mercury retrograde conjoins Jupiter. Heads Up. A little measured self-criticism can be a good thing. Use it to propel yourself further into a project that you love.
Wed Nov 28 the Moon is in Leo all day. Make it golden. And remember, gold does not tarnish. Do some of your best work today and consider it fun.
Part of the tension this month is from so many things in Scorpio. Part of it is perhaps the subconscious awareness that the next month is so holiday-laden that it could become too much to handle. Never mind. You have your work and you know what matters. That’s the way to deal with Scorpio. Remember, Scorpio is sextile to Capricorn. You know your own personal bottom line. Don’t abandon it or be lured away.
There will be plenty of time to celebrate all of this year’s achievements. Right now, you have weathered a nasty Venus retrograde and are navigating the last Mercury retrograde of the year. Nothing can stop you. Only you can slow yourself down. You’ve got this. Heads Up!
