Heads Up! The Writer’s Astrological March Almanac

March 2014
March is a bright new month, fresh after a Mercury retrograde and one day after the New Moon. Don’t get confused and think that it’s just a continuation of the last month. It’s not. It’s way bigger and brighter. Be sharp and don’t miss a beat, especially these first few days. A lot happens fast.
Mar 01 is a Saturday (Saturn’s day), and this is a mini-Heads Up to take the whole month seriously. Each day counts. Don’t waste or dream them away. The Moon is in Pisces all day, so dreaminess is in the air. Today is also the day that the planet Mars goes stationary retrograde at 27 Lib. Mars will reverse direction and do most of Libra all over again. This does not mean to slow down or lose any momentum. It basically means act more wisely, with more consideration and care. Other people still count big in the equation of daily life. Heads Up.
Sun Mar 02 the Moon has just moved into Aries when the planet Saturn goes stationary retrograde at 23 Sco. Saturn moves slowly, and this retrograde period lasts until the middle of July. Keep those critical faculties turned on. You can do good work with this. Saturn likes work. Don’t discourage yourself. Heads Up.
Mon Mar 03 the Moon conjuncts Uranus in Aries. Heads Up (especially if you’re a natural prankster.) Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday, aka Mardi Gras. Heads Up to let the good times roll, in a good and safe way. Writing, and all art, goes hand in hand with celebrations.
Wed Mar 04 the Moon is in Taurus all day. Midday, the planet Venus moves out of Capricorn and into the sign of Aquarius. Beauty can now be cool in more ways than one. We’re getting a month of Wednesdays with the Moon in fixed signs. Stick to your program. If you don’t have one, get one. And yes, tea time and/or a modest nightcap qualifies as part of the program.
Thu Mar 06 the Moon is still in Taurus when Jupiter at long last goes stationary direct at 10 Can. Heads Up in a good way. Look forward to a lifting of spirits and an upturn in good luck. See if you can avoid gaining any more weight over the next few weeks. In the evening, the Moon moves out of Taurus and enters Gemini. We have from now till early Sunday morning to indulge those mercurial inclinations. Write, read, and catch up on all those messages that languished under the Mercury retrograde.
Sun Mar 09 the Moon enters Cancer in the morning. We are now on Daylight Savings Time. Did you remember to turn your clock forward? More coffee and an easy pace to the day is appropriate.
Mon Mar 10 the Moon conjuncts Jupiter in Cancer. Make it a lucky, upbeat day. Break that cookie in half and share. Positive criticism abounds.
Wed Mar 12 the Moon is in Leo all day. Shine. You may love everything you write today, but you don’t need to be attached to any of it.
Thu Mar 14 the Moon is in Virgo when Mercury makes a trine to Mars retrograde. I almost said “enjoys” rather than “makes a”. It’s always a good idea to be careful with Mars, even in a trine situation. Write a lot, and look forward to editing it all. A mild Heads Up is not an over-reaction.
Sun Mar 16 we have the Full Moon at 26 Vir. Resolve to do your most meticulous work this lunar month. The Moon then goes void of course, entering Libra in the evening. More people may appear to impose on your writing time. Do what you can when you can, and be cheerful.
Mon Mar 17 the Moon is in Libra when Mercury leaves Aquarius and enters the sign of Pisces. It’s St. Patrick’s Day. Yes, emotions are high. How’s your supply of green ink?
Tue Mar 18 the Moon conjuncts Mars retrograde in Libra and then goes void of course for the rest of the day. You can still get a lot done. Make it stuff of your own choosing.
Wed Mar 19 the Moon is in Scorpio. Get serious, but don’t bite off any heads if you can help it. Whatever you write today should have extra zing to it. It’s also the last day of the month that the Sun spends in the sign of Pisces. It could be an exceptionally emotionally, knee-jerky kind of day. Technically, it’s also the very last day of winter. Tomorrow the world will be dramatically different, hotter, faster, more gung ho.
Thu Mar 20 the Moon is in Scorpio when the Sun changes signs, moving north along the ecliptic, crossing the celestial equator to reach the First Point of Aries. This brings us the Vernal Equinox. It’s the first day of spring. The whole world experiences twelve hours of daylight and twelve hours of nighttime. In countless ways, today is also a New Years Day. Heads Up for a fresh new start. Breathe new life and spirit into your work. Late tonight, the Moon conjuncts Saturn retrograde and goes void of course. Heads Up for a thoughtful appraisal of what matters most to you.
Sat Mar 22 the Moon is in Sagittarius when Mercury conjuncts Neptune. The Sun may have moved on, but the sign of Pisces continues to be able to rock our boat (if we let it). Mercury and Neptune are a vastly inspiring combination, as well as a huge force for chaos, addictive behavior, and self-deception. Heads Up.
Mon Mar 24 the Moon has a busy day in Capricorn. In the very early morning, the Moon sextiles Mercury. Wake up with a head full of plans and ideas. Five hours later the Moon makes an opposition to Jupiter. Do what makes the biggest dent in the to-do list. In the afternoon, the Moon conjuncts Pluto. Refuse to fret about any of it. Just keep keeping on. Heads Up.
Wed Mar 26 the Moon is in Aquarius all day. Work with studied coolness and objectivity. In the early morning, Mercury makes a trine to Jupiter. This could perk you up, but that Aquarius Moon should keep things from getting too wild. (Yes, I know, the Sun is in manic Aries, but still.)
Thu Mar 27 the Moon conjuncts Venus in Aquarius. It can be easier to focus on yourself without totally forgetting the existence of others. (They don’t have to be your first priority, though.)
Fri Mar 28 the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Pisces. Dream on. It doesn’t last forever. Fifteen hours later, the Moon conjuncts Mercury. You can take your finger out of the electric socket now. Yes, Mercury moves that fast. (Only a week ago, Mercury and Neptune were conjunct.) Heads Up in a general way, all day.
Sat Mar 29 the Moon trines Saturn and goes void of course in Pisces. entering Aries twelve hours later. Go easy on yourself and expect mixed messages. More importantly, though, is that today is the day before the New Moon. The New Moon in Aries is always a big deal, and the day before runs the risk of being a big deal, too. Heads Up.
Sun Mar 30 we have the New Moon at 09 Ari. Heads Up. This happens with the Moon approaching the planet Uranus. Heads Up. Mischief may be unavoidable, but try to keep it non-inflammatory. Three hours after the New Moon, a very young Moon perfects a conjunction with Uranus. Thoughts, wishes (and fantasies) may be way darker and heavier than any resultant deeds. Did I say Heads Up?
Now there’s a heady month for us. Appropriate, too, since we end with the Sun in Aries. Aries is traditionally associated with the head. Wear your bike helmet. It’s a month rich in ideas, brainstorms, desires, many of which may be possible as the year progresses. Take notes. Don’t let a good idea get away. Take the time needed to do something well, and then don’t look back. Even if you do have time to do it over, wouldn’t you rather be working on the next great thing? Be productive, ambitious, healthy, happy, and intent on giving the world what only you can give. Now there’s Aries for you. Heads Up!
