Heads Up!
The Writer’s Astrological Almanac
by Kathy Watts
September 2011
This month begins on a Thursday (Jupiter’s day of the week)
with the Moon in Libra, entering Scorpio by early afternoon.
I take that as a trend for the month, beginning smoothly
with big plans, and ramping up as the days go by. Let’s see
how much we can get done!
Fri Sep 02 the Moon is in Scorpio when the Sun exactly
trines Jupiter. Keep your eye on the big project and don’t
get complacent if it’s going well.
Tue Sep 06 the Moon conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. We see
this at least once a month, but it’s good for getting work
done (especially today, on a Mars day) if we can stay calm
enough to do it.
Wed Sep 07 the Moon is in Capricorn all day. It’s another
month of Wednesdays with the Moon in a cardinal sign. Start
things, but don’t let them languish. The Moon makes an
opposition to Mars in midafternoon, then goes void of
course. If you decide on a major rewrite of something, be
brave but not manic.
Thu Sep 08 the Moon is in Aquarius when Mercury opposes
Neptune. The Moon is weighing in on the side of Neptune
here, so maybe write those tearful emotional scenes now.
That night, Mercury changes signs and enters its nocturnal
home sign of Virgo. The heart should settle down and give
the head a chance to work again.
Sat Sep 10 the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Aquarius, then goes
void of course. If you need some dream time,
well,…everybody does sometimes.
Mon Sep 12 we have the Full Moon at 19Pisces. This is the
Harvest Moon, and on a Monday at that. Spend some time out
with people, then buckle down and work on something with the
promise of solving all the mysteries of existence (as all
great novels do). Ask for inspiration.
Tue Sep 13 the Moon conjuncts Uranus in Aries. Maybe do a
bit of wild flash fiction (or reply to a crazy op-ed piece),
then let work return to the pragmatic stuff of taking care
of mundane chores.
Wed Sep 14 the Moon is still in Aries when Venus moves out
of Virgo and enters her home sign of Libra. The world
should get more polite and pretty. Celebrate this
transition and read (and write) some serious fluff.
Fri Sep 16 the Moon conjuncts Jupiter in Taurus. Three
hours later, Pluto goes stationary direct. It’s the Jupiter
in Taurus that will keep things chugging along for us. It’s
Friday (Venus’s day), so mildly pamper yourself in the
evening, a glass of wine or a cold beer might do, maybe just
a nice hot bath..
Sat Sep 17 the Moon is still in Taurus when Venus exactly
opposes Uranus. If you find yourself out with an offbeat
crowd, at a party with eccentric people, enjoy and take
mental notes. Characters are where you find them.
Sun Sep 18 before dawn the Moon enters Gemini. We have from
now till Tuesday afternoon to write, communicate, and
network our little hearts out. In the early evening, Venus
exactly squares Pluto. Even the most frail and delicate
voices are entitled to speak up against the storm. Fifty
minutes or so later, Mars changes signs, leaves Cancer and
enters fiery Leo. Heads Up. Think fire, and then think
what to write with it.
Wed Sep 21 the Moon is in Cancer all day. Stay home and
work if you can, eat well, and be good to yourself. Ignore
the noisy neighbors and get a lot done.
Thu Sep 22 in the final hour, the Moon conjuncts Mars in
early Leo. Heads up in a good way. You can say and write a
lot of things to reenergize a lot of people. It’s also the
last day of the month when the Sun is in Virgo. Heads Up.
Tomorrow the world will be radically different, slower, not
so heads down and detail-oriented.
Fri Sep 23 the Moon is still in Leo when the Sun changes
signs and enters Libra. This is the month to remember that
how you deal with people is sometimes more important than
what you have to give them. This is the first day of fall,
the Autumnal Equinox. Day and night are equally 12 hours
each, all over the world. How’s that for a celestial
balancing act? For a peek at your upcoming three months,
cast an ingress chart. Venus rules Libra, so all this
month, the Sun is a guest in Venus’s house. Enjoy.
Sun Sep 25 the Moon is void of course in Virgo when Mercury
changes signs and joins Venus and the Sun in Libra. Your
narrative voice may soften. Three hours later, the Sun
exactly opposes Uranus. You may be more critical of
peculiar things, or heck, you may be encouraged to become
more peculiar, yourself. This rates a mild Heads Up.
Mon Sep 26 the Moon is in Libra when Mercury exactly opposes
Uranus. Part of the value of the unconventional is that
there may be unexpected consequences, some of them good.
Think inventive plot twists. It’s also the day before the
New Moon. Be safe. Heads Up.
Tue Sep 27 a very dark Moon conjuncts Mercury in the opening
degrees of Libra. You could really penetrate deeply in the
psyche of some evil character. (Some writers think that a
good bad guy is a joy forever.) Two hours later is the New
Moon at 04Libra. Start something that you crave to share.
Shortly before the day ends, the very young crescent Moon
conjuncts Venus in Libra. Heads up in the best way with the
biggest smile possible.
Wed Sep 28 the Sun exactly squares Pluto in the wee small
hours. Two minutes later the Moon conjuncts Saturn in
Libra. Sleep well and undisturbed, and wake up full of
energy. In the morning, Mercury squares Pluto. You can
fight your way through the toughest writer’s block. Early
afternoon, the Sun conjuncts Mercury. Take a moment to put
down the pen (or take hands off the keyboard) and just sit
quietly and think about …about the great nothing that is
the everything that we are really writing about all the
time. It’s an active day, Mercurially speaking. Heads Up.
We also basically have another Wednesday with the Moon in a
cardinal sign, except for the last few hours when the Moon
slips into Scorpio, perhaps saving the most intense stuff
for last. Heads Up.
Thu Sep 29 the Moon is in Scorpio when Venus conjuncts
Saturn in Libra. We can find tactful, gracious ways to be
serious as necessary.
This month seems manageable, not full of pitfalls, if not
calm then at least sane. (Well, except for Sep 07 and Sep
28; why did they have to be Wednesdays?) It’s a disguise.
The world is as crazed and confused as ever, and we have to
find and use whatever works for us to keep producing the one
thing that gives our life meaning…our writing. All
writing, well, all Art has a big element of sacrifice, in
that we take a part of ourselves and give it away. No, we
don’t just give ourselves away and thus lessen ourselves —
we share ourselves. And, being in intimate contact with our
loved ones and everything else in the living breathing world
and taking inspiration from them all, we enrich ourselves at
the same time. What a gig! Follow your heart, and your
head, and your dreams, and all the muddy slippery roads in
the real world. Let them take us where we need to be to
…write! Have a grand month! Heads Up!
