Sun Jan 24 the Moon is in Taurus when the Sun trines Saturn
retrograde.  Do things at your own pace.  It’s a day where authority
and respect are there if you call on them.

Mon Jan 25 the Moon enters Gemini.  Now we can really get some writing
done, get some of that stale correspondence taken care of, get those
phone calls returned.  Watch that coffee consumption, though.

Tue Jan 26 the Moon is in Gemini when Venus opposes Mars retrograde.
It seems like yesterday that these two planets were in lockstep
conjunction.  It may look impossible, but a cool heart can still
understand a hot head.  (These kinds of meditations are great for
character development.)

Wed Jan 27 the Moon enters Cancer in the early morning.  Work at home
if you can; at least pack your own lunch and eat something you
actually like.  It’s a good day to keep the body at the desk and
minimize some of that manic running around.

Fri Jan 29 the Moon enters Leo in the early morning.  Work may feel
more like fun today.  Near noon, the Sun opposes Mars retrograde.
We’re deep in the heart of the Mars retrograde period and Mars is
shining its brightest and most golden in the sky.  At night, the Moon
conjuncts Mars retrograde, and about an hour later comes the Full Moon
at 10 Leo.  This is a triple-decker Heads Up.  Internalize as much of
this energy as you can, and dole it out over the next several months.
Determine to share your energetic outlook and to accomplish great
things.  Writing is such a gamble, even under the easiest of
circumstances.  Know where your passions are, then be practical but be
passionate!  Heads Up.  Do something good with this.

Sat Jan 30 the Moon in Leo opposes Venus in the morning, then opposes
Neptune that night.  Heads Up.  You can be your own worst critic, but
why.  Make another cup of tea and calmly persist.  Self-doubts are
self-generated, but so is self-esteem.  Make some for yourself.

Sun Jan 31 the Moon enters Virgo.  The month ends on a less than sweet
note when in the afternoon Saturn retrograde squares Pluto.  This can
be a powder keg, but that doesn’t mean it has to be ignited.  Heads
Up.  Keep things in perspective, and take as little as possible
personally.  The whole world is being subjected to this strong,
slow-moving aspect.  Be a model for others and refrain from
self-righteous anger.  Strive to be patient and clearheaded (the Moon
is in Virgo, after all).  Refuse to be baited.  You can get a lot of
mileage out of this.

I don’t remember a month with so many Heads Ups, but this is how it’s
going to be throughout 2010.  It’s a Heads Up kind of year.  But we
have what it takes to do what we need to do.  If we didn’t like
challenges, would we be writing?  Rhetorical question!  Be strong and
solid on the inside, animated, shining, maybe even on fire on the
outside.

Have a stellar opening month to this most dynamic of years.  This
year, for example, opens with Jupiter conjunct Neptune, and it ends
with Jupiter conjunct Uranus.  Buckle down, have the strength of your
convictions, have faith in everything and nothing, and write your
heart out.  That’s my plan, anyway.  Heads Up!!

The Writer’s Astrological Almanac

January 2010

Happy New Year!  We start on Friday Jan 01 with the Moon entering Leo
and opposing Mercury retrograde.  Be brave and attack self-delusion
whereever you find it.  Make this a year of realistic and pragmatic
progress.  Later today, the Moon trines Uranus.  You can always count
on emotions to provide inspiration.

Sun Jan 03 the Moon conjuncts Mars retrograde in Leo.  Simmering pride
has its uses, but gracious self-control might work better.  Then the
Moon enters Virgo and opposes Neptune, then Jupiter.  There is no
reason for severe self-criticism.  Be kind to yourself.  Heads Up.

Mon Jan 04 the Moon is in Virgo when the Sun conjuncts Mercury
retrograde.  Let the mind run free and don’t demand that things make
sense.  There are other days for that.  Heads Up.

Tue Jan 05 Mercury retrograde conjuncts Venus.  Have faith in your
feelings, and in your taste.  You don’t need concrete reasons for why
you love what you love.  Nighttime, the Moon enters Libra.  This
always lightens the atmosphere and makes it easier for everyone to
smile.

Wed Jan 06 the Moon conjuncts Saturn in Libra.  Treating others
sensibly is often the first step to good outcomes, and to happy
endings.

Mon Jan 11 the Moon is in Sagittarius when the Sun conjuncts Venus.
Big hearts have big feelings, even if at times it seems more like no
feeling at all.  This too shall pass.

Wed Jan 13  the Moon has a busy day in Capricorn.  First, the Moon
conjuncts Pluto.  Heads Up.  This often brings a burst of insecurity,
if not paranoia.  It won’t last.  Four hours later, Saturn goes
stationary retrograde in Libra.  Heads Up.  Be patient with
everything.  If it feels like you’re wading through stiff mud, move
very slowly and carefully.  You can hose it off later.  Half an hour
later, the Moon conjuncts Mercury retrograde.  New minor problems may
come to light, but hey, they’re minor.  It’s also the day before the
New Moon.  This always adds risk to the equation that is daily life.
Work with care and compassion.  Heads Up.

Thu Jan 14 is the solar eclipse and New Moon at 25 Cap.  Heads Up.
There may be fresh new energy for some project you’ve been slaving
over for a long time.  It’s a good day to be tough.  Rewards may come
later.  Be safe and sensible in work and travel, even if it’s just
around the block.  You want to be there when the rewards show up.

Fri Jan 15 the Moon conjuncts Venus in Capricorn.  Work is not the
same as tedium, especially if you can work at something you love.
Midmorning, Mercury goes stationary direct and about twenty-five
minutes later, the Moon enters Aquarius.  Is this not a formula for
progress and improvement?  Heads Up in the most positive way.  As your
thoughts clear, the world will expand before your eyes.

Sun Jan 17 the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Aquarius.  Believe in what
you do for the greater good.  There will be benefits for you, too.
Jupiter changes signs and moves into Pisces (which it rules).  No
longer deposited by Saturn, Jupiter is free to express generosity in
the most subtle and intimate of ways.  Four hours later, the Moon also
enters Pisces and five minutes later conjuncts Jupiter.  It’s a good
day to work on romance scenes, because for a short time, the world is
one big emotional goldfish bowl.  Be polite.  Heads Up.

Mon Jan 18 the Moon is in Pisces when Venus changes signs and enters
Aquarius.  This is slightly more relaxed than Venus placed in
Capricorn.  Indulge a little in your beautiful big plans, then return
to the nuts and bolts of your work in progress.

Tue Jan 19 the Moon is still in Pisces when the Sun moves out of
Capricorn and enters the sign of Aquarius.  Other people take on new
importance.  Perhaps it’s a good time to reassess the audience and
market for which you’re writing.  Later that night, the Moon conjuncts
Uranus in Pisces.  Enjoy a little emotional release; maybe splurge on
some experimental poetry or music.

Wed Jan 20 the Moon enters Aries midmorning.  It’s a serious, driven
work day, but it’s all yours.  Smile and jump in.

Thu Jan 21 the Moon is in Aries when Venus trines Saturn retrograde.
It’s a good day to thoroughly enjoy working on the non-trivial.  You
can accomplish a lot today.  Heads Up for the good.

Kathy Watts has been doing astrology and stargazing for over 40 years. Her traditional style is strongly inspired by the work of Johannes Kepler. In a previous incarnation, she was a seismic analyst who located and computed magnitudes for earthquakes, with and without the use of computers. We are honored to have her share her great insights here! Kathy also writes for La honda Films (http://lahondafilms.com) an independent filmmaker in the redwoods of Northern California, near where she and her husband live. She is a tenth house Sun with a Moon in Scorpio, so of course she spends a lot of time looking in a lot of dark clouds in search of silver, if not golden linings. The study of lunar returns is also a specialty of hers. You can find her as kdirewolf on facebook and twitter!
