January 2014
Some years start off with a bang. This year starts off with a Kaboom!
Wed Jan 01 gives us the New Moon at 10Cap. A writer can hit the ground running for the whole year with this. Remember that Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and it’s only common sense to give things the time they require. No burnout allowed. Half an hour after the New Moon, we experience the Moon Pluto conjunction. No burnout allowed, really. One hour later, the Moon makes a square to Mars. Refuse to let anything put you in a bad mood. We’re still in the morning hours, here. About two hour later, the Moon makes a conjunction to Mercury. Analyze, yes, but over think, no. Yes, we are still in Wed Jan 01. Four and a half hours later, the Sun itself makes a conjunction with Pluto. This aspect often signals the most intense day of the year. This year, we get it out of the way first thing. Fifteen minutes later, the Moon exactly opposes Jupiter. Get a fresh cup of tea, look back on what it means to be lucky, and apply it in the most positive way you can. Did I say, “Happy New Year!”? Well, it is. Even if you get no writing done today, there will be stories galore to supply you for the rest of the year.
Thu Jan 02 the Moon conjuncts Venus retrograde and then goes void of course for six hours before entering the sign of Aquarius. That should calm down the emotions. An hour before the day ends on the Left Coast, Mercury opposes Jupiter. Positive criticism can be a good thing.
Sat Jan 04 the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Pisces. Dreams are powerful. What are you doing with yours?
Sun Jan 05 the Moon is in Pisces (which if you recall is traditionally ruled by Jupiter) all day long. The Moon forms a trine with Jupiter in the late morning. Relax into the rest of the day and get things done. Two and a half hours later, the Sun opposes Jupiter. You may want to work but the world may want to play. You decide, nicely of course.
Tue Jan 07 the Moon makes a conjunction with Uranus in Aries. Rebellious nature plus self-motivation may not get much done, but it can sure get things started. Ten and a half hours later comes the Moon opposition to Mars. This can slow things down, if you use it that way. A scant eight minutes later we see the Mercury-Venus conjunction. Shift the focus off yourself and back on making your work beautiful. No one has to see it now.
Wed Jan 08 the Moon is void of course in Aries most of the day. Work on some of your own stuff. In the late afternoon, Mars squares Jupiter. Don’t give up or rewrite anything just yet. Four hours later the Moon finally escapes Aries and moves into Taurus. This calls for a cup of tea. This month we’re getting Wednesdays with the Moon in cardinal signs, sometimes going void of course and making it into a fixed sign.
Sat Jan 11 the Moon enters the sign of Gemini. Despite it being a weekend, put on another pot of tea and write. One minute before the Moon enters Gemini, though, the Sun conjuncts Venus. How’s that for a celestial blessing of sorts? In hard-working Capricorn, no less. (This marks the middle of the Venus retrograde cycle.) In the late afternoon. Mercury changes signs, leaving Capricorn and entering airy Aquarius where it may be a bit more comfortable. This could also lessen any feelings of oppression.
Sun Jan 12 the Moon is in Gemini all day. Make the most of it. If not writing, you can collect material, network, socialize, and spread your word in whatever manner pleases you. Smile. It is the Sun’s day.
Mon Jan 13 the Moon enters Cancer in the late afternoon. Creativity may drift to more domestic expressions, like having a good meal. You’ve no doubt earned it.
Tue Jan 14 the Moon conjuncts Jupiter retrograde in Cancer. If you work at home, lucky you. If you don’t, you can recharge your creative batteries.
Wed Jan 15 we have the Full Moon at 25 Can. This is definitely a license to write deeply emotional material, or to address subjects near and dear to your heart and your roots. After the Full Moon, the Moon goes void of course.
Sat Jan 18 the Moon squares Saturn in the wee dark hours and then goes void of course in Leo. Even void of course in Leo can be heartening. It’s the weekend, Enjoy part of it. In the late afternoon, the Moon enters Virgo. The big news today, though, is that it is the last day of the month for the Sun to be in Capricorn. Heads Up. Tomorrow things may a bit less securely grounded, though every bit as intellectually demanding.
Sun Jan 19 the Moon is in Virgo when the Sun changes signs, leaving cardinal earth Capricorn and entering fixed air Aquarius. This may sound like radically different territories, but both signs are traditionally ruled by Saturn, so don’t expect black to suddenly turn to white. The modest earthy Virgo Moon might help us from flying off into abstraction once the Capricorn tether has been cut.
Wed Jan 22 the Moon is in Libra all day. Have a balanced schedule and do what you can to stick to it. The Moon conjuncts Mars in the evening and then goes void of course. You should be able to keep a fire of some sort lit under yourself for most of the working, writing day.
Sat Jan 25 in the morning, the Moon conjuncts Saturn in Scorpio. (It’s an occultation, actually.) Sometimes you need to be serious. Other times, just being practical will do. (Hard for writers, I know.) In the late evening, the Moon finally escapes into Sagittarius. This will perk up the rest of the weekend.
Tue Jan 28 the Moon conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. Hammer away at one stubborn little thing. Watch it crumble to your will. A half hour later the Moon makes an opposition to Jupiter retrograde. There is still plenty of joy in the world. Almost two hours later we have the Moon Venus conjunction. Even with Venus still retrograde (though not for long), it’s hard to get prettier and more joyous than this. This is one busy Moon. Are you having a busy day?
Wed Jan 29 the Moon goes void of course in Capricorn in the morning. You may feel as though you’re spinning your wheels, but don’t stop now. You’re getting work done. In the late evening the Moon finally enters Aquarius. If not lofty dreams, it could still be a bigger perspective. It’s also the day before the New Moon. Easy does it, all day today. Keep risks of all sorts at a minimum. Heads Up!
Thu Jan 30 We have the New Moon at 10 Aqu. Be willing to start something big that is meant to be received on a bigger scale than your normal audience. Look far out beyond yourself and see who is waiting for you.
Fri Jan 31 sees a busy sky. The Moon is in Aquarius when Jupiter retrograde opposes Pluto in the very early hours. This is cosmic, global, and with the Moon in Aquarius, you can work in your own little corner of existence for the benefit of everyone. Five hours later Mercury changes sign, leaving Aquarius and entering Pisces. This may make Mercury less comfortable, no longer being in an air sign, but at least Mercury is now a guest in Jupiter’s house and may be permitted sometimes to misbehave. Your writing and thoughts may reflect some of this. In the afternoon we see Venus go stationary direct. It’s nice to see this on a Friday, the day of week ruled by Venus. You’re as pretty as you feel inside. That night, the Moon makes a conjunction with Mercury. Let the thoughts and ideas flash. You can sleep some other time.
It’s an action-packed month, with many aspects of the inner planets, and then that Jupiter-Pluto opposition on top of it all. Perhaps the best thing you can do is keep your house, or your office, or your writing desk or tablet in working order and remaining productive in however a modest way. No contribution is going to go unnoticed.
Don’t ever think that your efforts don’t matter, that your views and opinions are unimportant, or that your words don’t count. They are yours and you share them with the world. It’s a glorious gift that you make, simply persisting in being creative, coherent, and concrete. Be strong, steady, stable, sane, and keep your eye on that star. It’s shining just for you. Make it a fantastic month. Heads Up!
