September 2013
Summer is past its prime, though not yet over, and autumn is upon us. Welcome to September. We start on Sunday Sept 01 with the Moon entering Leo late in the day. Before day’s end, the Moon conjuncts Mars. Go for the high-energy gold and noble spirit this month, and skip the rest. Respect yourself, too, and don’t burn out.
Wed Sept 02 the Moon is mostly in Virgo. We can look forward to a month of Wednesdays with the Moon in the mutable signs. Virgo is always an editing and fact-checking opportunity. It’s nice to not be wrong. Also, today is the day before the New Moon, so Heads Up on that. Be safety-conscious, in and out of home.
Thu Sept 03 the Moon is in Virgo all day long. Early in the day we get the New Moon at 13 Vir. Start something small, delicate but elegant. As a slight perk, three hours later the Moon makes a sextile to Jupiter (which is still in the middle of Cancer). Small things can be done with big feeling. Make it a soothing, satisfying sextile.
Fri Sept 06 the Moon exactly conjuncts Mercury in Virgo in the very early morning, and then goes void of course, entering Libra nine hours later. Get those loose ends neatly tied up and then have a sweetly social weekend.
Sun Sept 08 the Moon conjuncts (occults, actually) Venus in Virgo. End the weekend in style. The Moon then goes void of course, entering Scorpio later in the evening. Tomorrow the world may feel less accommodating.
Mon Sept 09 the Moon is in Scorpio all day. It’s good to be serious about your work, but don’t go berserk over it all. Shortly after midnight as this day starts on the left coast, Mercury changes signs, leaves its nocturnal home of Virgo and slips peacefully into Libra. Mercury is now a guest of Venus for all but the last two days of this month. Don’t let this steal your momentum and tempt you to concentrate on others and do less of your own stuff. Three hours after Mercury moves on, there is an exact square formed between Mars and Saturn. This may not sound writer-oriented, but Mars and Saturn are the two traditional heavy hitters among the planets. If you feel like you have one foot on the gas pedal and the other on the brake, well, you’re not alone. Have patience. Four and half hours after this square, the Moon joins in on the side of Saturn and conjuncts Saturn in Scorpio. Though this doesn’t necessarily constitute anything specifically serious, forgiveness and slack may be lacking in the world. Let’s give it a proper Heads Up and avoid as much knee-jerk trouble as we can.
Tue Sept 10 the Moon in Scorpio makes a sextile to the Sun in the early hours, and then goes void of course for almost all the rest of the day. It does not have to be a grim day. Work on what matters most to you. Near day’s end, Venus changes signs, moves out of her nocturnal home of Libra and bravely enters Scorpio. This may show us the tough side of Venus, so Heads up. (It may be good for writing those racier romance scenes, as well as those tough love plot complications.) For twenty minutes the Moon and Venus are both in Scorpio, one at the beginning and the other at the end. Once those twenty long minutes are over, the Moon moves into Sagittarius. Look forward to sweeter dreams tonight.
Wed Sept 11 the Moon is in Sagittarius all day. Look around for publishing possibilities. In the morning, the Moon makes a sextile to Mercury. Sextiles are usually mild but often pleasant little surprises. Heads Up for a writerly treat. You may get more done today than you expected.
Fri Sept 13 the Moon enters Capricorn in the early morning, and conjuncts Pluto four hours later, hopefully while most of us are still asleep. Be willing to be intense for at least a little while. The day ends with a trine between Venus and Neptune. This may not increase productivity but it may bring even sweeter dreams.
Sat Sept 14 the Moon is in Capricorn when Mercury makes a square to Pluto. Heads up in the criticism department. Don’t instantly judge things in the worst light, and resist taking instant offense over anything. Mercury moves fast, and so will this Heads up.
Tue Sept 17 the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Pisces. Dreams and meditations can be a writer’s friends. Wishful thinking and self-delusion, not so much. Having said that, you can pursue great beauty in your work today.
Wed Sept 18 the Moon is in Pisces all day. Submerge yourself in your work and ignore any life preservers thrown your way by well-meaning but intrusive friends (at least, during your work hours). In the afternoon, Venus conjuncts Saturn in Scorpio. Things probably are better than you think they look. With any luck, Saturn may help to keep us out of any serious trouble. Heads Up.
Thu Sept 19 we have the Full Moon at 26 Pis. This is only four degrees from the end of the zodiac, after which it will all start again. Work in the spirit of completion and ask the universe to help. The Moon then promptly goes void of course for the rest of the day. In the evening, Mercury makes a square to Jupiter. Relax and enjoy a few harmless creature comforts, without overdoing it, of course.
Fri Sept 20 the Moon conjuncts Uranus in Aries in the early morning hours. Be creative and let those wild and crazy ideas fly. They all won’t stay aloft, but one or two might. Three hours later, Pluto goes stationary direct. (Did you forget that Pluto was retrograde? Well, good for you!) Maybe this combination deserves a mild Heads Up, though. Later in the evening, the Moon opposes Mercury, giving us pause and an extra moment for self-reflection.
Sat Sept 21 the Moon enters Taurus in the late afternoon. It could be a self-indulgent weekend, if you let it. The real event today though, is that it’s the last day of the month that the Sun is in the sign of Virgo. Tomorrow, the world may get a bit softer and blurrier around the edges, sweeter but more ambiguous.
Sun Sept 22 the Moon is in Taurus all day. It’s the day of the Autumnal Equinox, the first day of Autumn. Day and night will each be twelve hours long, for every place on earth. Savor the balance. For a personal peek at your upcoming three months, cast an ingress chart for your location. I hope you made good use of all that Sun in Virgo time to get a ton of editing done.
Tue Sept 23 in the very early hours, the Moon enters Gemini. Let the concentration of writing, communications, and things mercurial begin and continue till the Moon leaves Gemini midday on Thursday. We’re starting on the day of week ruled by Mars, so fire away at that word count.
Wed Sept 24 the Moon is in Gemini all day. Enough said. Write away, but don’t be surprised if the phone rings more often and the email is more abundant.
Thu Sept 25 the Moon makes a trine to Mercury in the morning, then goes void of course in Gemini till mid-afternoon when it’s time for the Moon to move on into Cancer. Make it a productive morning, then if home life or domestic concerns take over, so it goes. We all have to wash that coffee cup or teapot sometime.
Sat Sept 28 the Moon conjuncts Jupiter in Cancer. Enjoy a pleasant weekend close to home. Entertain, and be entertained. We all get to decompress once in a while.
Sun Sept 29 the Moon makes a square to Mercury in the very early hours and then goes void of course in Cancer for twenty-seven whole minutes before entering the sign of Leo, trading an environment of water for fire. Four and half hours later, though, Mercury changes signs, departing Libra and entering Scorpio, giving us the water back. There’s so much Scorpio energy going on here, I’m tempted to give this a mild Heads Up. Let your fictional characters impulsively act on their emotions, and go have a cup of tea.
Mon Sept 30 the Moon conjuncts Mars in Leo. Go for the gold, in the most noble of ways. Is this not how we started this month?
Ah, but so much else has changed. The Sun may be in Libra now, but Scorpio claims the attention of Mercury, Venus, and Saturn. All these are now guests in the house of Mars (or, Pluto if you prefer, but why would you?), and Mars is in Leo at the moment. Fire and water is a touchy combination but you can make it work for you. We’re also looking at a lot of potential for stubbornness, but with the Sun in Libra, this can be toned down and transformed into basic persistence.
It’s a high-energy month, but it’s yours to do with as you will. Of course the world will have its own ideas and make its own demands on you. Isn’t that the stuff that is the source of our inspiration? Sure, it’s the source of endless frustration, too, but we are creative people and we know how to make lemons into lemonade. We can see the impossible silk purse when everyone else is seeing a sow’s ear, and we know how to shape-shift that comedy into the crazy funniness that life really is.
Have a fantastic month and go do your best! Heads Up!
