Welcome 2011!!

Heads Up!   January 2011

Happy New Year and welcome to 2011! We start off on a Saturday (Saturn’s day of the week) with the Moon in Sagittarius. Jupiter rules Sagittarius. This fits in well with the upcoming Jupiter-Saturn opposition in late March. Take it as a theme for the year — generosity, gratitude, respect. We all want it, after all, so let’s share the “wealth.”

Sun Jan 2 the Moon conjuncts Mercury on Sagittarius. Think big thoughts, and phrase them meticulously. The audience will build itself.

Mon Jan 3 the Moon conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. Feel strongly about your work, do your best, and let the chips fall where they may. It’s also the day before the New Moon (that will also be a solar eclipse). Be safety-minded, especially when traveling, even if only to the grocery store. Heads Up.

Tue Jan 4 is the New Moon at 13 Cap. Embrace your work with a new intensity. It’s also a solar eclipse. What decisions you make now will have extra weight for the next three months. A few hours later Jupiter conjuncts Uranus in the end of Pisces. Expansive feelings may go out in surprising directions. Less that an hour later, Venus trines Uranus. The unexpected and unconventional may be better received. Then Venus trines Jupiter. A lot of people can feel good about a lot of things. Encourage the good things, and feel good, too.

Wed Jan 5 the Moon is void of course in Capricorn for a few hours, and then enters Aquarius. We have a month of Wednesdays with the Moon settling down into a fixed sign. Today, indulge some radical new ideas or approaches, especially if there are overtones of social consciousness.

Fri Jan 7 the Moon is in Aquarius when Venus changes signs and enters Sagittarius. The circle widens for social graces. The Sun squares Saturn in the early morning. There might be some tough (but brief) resistance to a well-loved project. Heads Up. Later the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Aquarius, then enters Pisces. Being softhearted can cause problems in real life, but it’s always useful as a character flaw in a sympathetic hero or heroine.

Mon Jan 10 the Moon conjuncts Uranus in Pisces. Meditate on some new, innovative concept. An hour and a half later, the Moon conjuncts Jupiter in Pisces. Dream bright, generous dreams, or maybe just blast some favorite music as you work.

Tue Jan 11 the Moon is in Aries when Mercury squares Jupiter. A lot of people may be shouting out a lot of big, questionable opinions and ideas. This means it’s a good time for a writer to listen, even eavesdrop. Heads Up.

Wed Jan 12 the Moon is void of course in Aries all morning, then enters Taurus for the rest of the day. Stop madly dashing from chore to chore and buckle down into a project worthy of stubborn attention.

Thu Jan 13 the Moon is in Taurus when Mercury changes signs and enters Capricorn. Thought processes become more practical and business-like, if not also a tiny bit slower. Use it all.

Sat Jan 15 the Moon enters Gemini in the early morning, where it will be until Monday afternoon. If not a heavy-duty writing weekend, it can be a weekend of research, museum, concert, or movie going, or plain old good conversations. In the afternoon, Mars changes signs and enters Aquarius. This brings extra energy and motivation for experiment and social service.

Sun Jan 16 the Moon is in Gemini all day. Do something mercurial with it. Absorb creativity, and let it go.

Mon Jan 17 the Moon enters her home sign of Cancer in the afternoon. Don’t be ashamed of doing something that makes you feel safe. That night, Mercury conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. Some revolutionary ideas really are dangerous (that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be thought). Heads Up.

Wed Jan 19 we have the Full Moon at 29 Can. Ask for what is deepest in your heart. Five minutes later the Moon trines Jupiter, then goes void of course for an hour and a bit before entering Leo. This is all encouragement to fully commit to your true passions. It’s also the last day of the month with the Sun in Capricorn. You can get a tremendous amount of work done. Don’t burn yourself out. Heads Up.

Thu Jan 20 the Moon is in Leo when the Sun changes signs and enters Aquarius. Look forward to a month of more objectivity and less crazed work mania. Now more than ever, go for quality rather than quantity.

Sat Jan 22 the Moon is in Virgo when Jupiter says farewell to Pisces and enters the sign of Aries. Let that Virgoan common sense help you control the exuberant joy of King Jupiter stepping into the shiny new first degree of the zodiac. The new can still be lucky.

Mon Jan 24 the Moon conjuncts an almost stationary and very strong Saturn in Libra. This will also put the brakes on the thrill of Jupiter entering Aries. This is also a mild long-term Heads Up for the Jupiter-Saturn opposition coming at the end of March. Be grateful and respectful of everything, even of your good luck.

Tue Jan 25 the Moon has moved into Scorpio when Saturn goes stationary retrograde in Libra. Heads Up. Publishers, editors, and agents may be less willing to listen during this period, but don’t worry. You are at least as serious as they are. Perseverance furthers.

Wed Jan 26 the Moon is in Scorpio all day. Be serious about your work. It deserves it. It’s also a good day to write scenes of sex, death, and other people’s money. In the early hours Mercury squares Saturn. This aspect reeks of self-criticism. Take note but don’t fret over any discouraging dreams.

Sat Jan 29 the Moon conjuncts Venus in Sagittarius. Beauty deserves to be widely shared. If nothing else, smile.

Sun Jan 31 the Moon conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. For the second time this month, we get to really hole up and concentrate on things like, ah, deadlines.

This is a month of work-related concerns, but, hey, we’re not writers to avoid the work that we love and are compelled to pursue. Venus and Jupiter encourage us to be joyful and share our enthusiasm with the world. The world, in fact, is our audience, although only small portions of it may respond to us at any one time. Be bold and brave. Dabble in the experimentation that all truly fresh writing must have. Cherish your own unique narrative voice and perspective, and explore it. Have a marvellously creative month. Go surprise yourself with your own talents, because they are great. Heads Up!
